TEST 1 WRITINGS

1. SHOULD SCHOOLS START LATER?

Many teenagers find it difficult to wake up early in the morning. Some people believe that schools should start later, while others think that students need to learn to be punctual. In my opinion, schools should start later because students would be healthier and learn more effectively.

Firstly, one of the main reasons why schools should start later is that teenagers need enough sleep. During adolescence, sleeping well is essential for both physical and mental health. For example, students who sleep fewer hours often feel tired and have difficulty concentrating in class. As a result, starting lessons later could help them feel more energetic and improve their academic performance.

Furthermore, in my opinion,  a later start could reduce stress and improve students’ mood. When teenagers have enough time to get ready in the morning, they may arrive at school feeling more relaxed. This could create a better atmosphere in the classroom. However, some people argue that starting later would mean finishing school later in the afternoon, leaving less time for sports and hobbies. Although this is a valid concern, schools could organise their timetables more efficiently.

In conclusion, getting enough sleep and reducing stress are important for teenagers’ well-being and education. For all these reasons, I firmly believe that schools should start later. After all, how can students learn well if they are too tired to concentrate?

2. ARE SOCIAL WEBSITES GOOD FOR TEENAGERS?

Nowadays, social websites are an important part of teenagers’ lives. Young people use them to communicate, share photos and discover new information. Although these platforms have some disadvantages, I believe that social websites are good for teenagers if they use them responsibly.

Firstly, one major advantage of social websites is that they help teenagers stay connected with friends and family. They can communicate with people who live far away and share their experiences. For example, students can create group chats to organise school projects or help each other with homework. For this reason, social websites can improve communication and cooperation.

Furthermore, As I see it,  these platforms provide opportunities to learn new things. Teenagers can watch educational videos, follow news accounts and discover different cultures. However, social websites can also have negative effects on young people’s mental health. Some teenagers compare themselves with unrealistic images online or suffer from cyberbullying. As a result, they may feel anxious or lose confidence. Nevertheless, setting time limits, protecting personal information and reporting harmful behaviour can help reduce these risks.

To sum up, social websites can be useful tools for communication and learning, but teenagers must understand their dangers. Personally, I believe that their advantages outweigh their disadvantages when they are used wisely. After all, the problem is not social media itself, but how we choose to use it.

3. SHOULD HOMEWORK BE BANNED?

Homework is a common part of school life, and students often spend several hours a week completing assignments at home. While some people believe that homework is necessary, others think that it causes too much stress. In my opinion, homework should not be completely banned, but students should receive less of it.

Firstly, As I see it , the main advantage of homework is that it helps students practise what they have learnt in class. Regular practice can improve their understanding and help them become more independent. For example, doing a few Maths exercises or revising English vocabulary can help students remember important information. Consequently, homework can prepare them for exams and teach them to organise their time.

On the other hand, I think that  too much homework can be harmful due to the fact that  teenagers also need time to relax, play sports and spend time with their families. In addition, students who have many assignments may feel stressed and sleep less. For instance, a student who spends the whole evening studying may not have enough time to enjoy other activities. Although some people argue that more homework leads to better results, this is not always true. The quality of the tasks is more important than the quantity.

In conclusion, homework can reinforce learning, but excessive assignments can negatively affect students’ well-being. For all these reasons, I strongly believe that schools should reduce homework rather than ban it completely. After all, education should help students develop, not leave them without time to enjoy their lives.
